10 Bible Verses About Love

Have you ever tried to describe love to someone? Love takes many forms in all of us. We are taught to express it in different ways and we interrupt it like wise. We assume that love is universal, but like languages it can separate us.

As a teenager, I used to love to clip out the little comic in the Sunday paper. The ones by Bill Asprey were my favorite. I collected them, hung them off my vanity so I could sit while I brushed my hair and look at them. Love is….

All these different comics reminded me each day how to show love and receive love. (If you have never seen these comics, I encourage you to do a search online “Love is… comics.” )

Only there are those of us who aren’t feeling it. Not sure if you had it and lost it, never felt it, or have become to lonely, lost, or angry to recognize it. I get it. It’s hard to find love in the media right now, in the heated debates about the violence, destruction, and the unjust acts happening in our world.

We are angry, we hurt, and sometimes through those moments we just need a reminder that we are loved and how to share with ours so that they feel loved as well.

I’ve long taken down those ‘Love is…’ comics from my mirror, and I have found these ten bible verses to bring the same inspiration.

And I hope that you will as well.

[bctt tweet=”And now I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. (John 13:34)” username=”inspireafire”]

[bctt tweet=”Do not take revenge on others or continue to hate them but love your neighbors as you love you love yourself. I am the Lord. (Leviticus 19:18)” username=”inspireafire”]

[bctt tweet=”Above everything, love one another earnestly, because love covers over many sins. (1 Peter 4:8)” username=”inspireafire”]

[bctt tweet=”Be under obligation to no one–the only obligation you have is to love one another. Whoever does this has obeyed the Law. (Romans 13:8)” username=”inspireafire”]

[bctt tweet=”My children, our love should not be just words and talk; it must be true love, which shows itself in action. (1 John 3:18) KJV” username=”inspireafire”]

No one has ever seen God, but if we love one another, God lives in union with us, and his love is made perfect in us. We are sure that we live in union with God and that he lives in union with us, because he has given us his Spirit. (1 John 4:12-13) KJV

[bctt tweet=”Do all your work in love. (1 Corinthians 16:14) KJV” username=”inspireafire”]

Be always humble, gentle, and patient. Show your love by being tolerant with one another. Do your best to preserve the unity which the Spirit gives by means of the peace that binds you together. (Ephesians 4:2-3) KJV

Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble. Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. (1 Peter 3:8-9) NIV

[bctt tweet=”Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, (1 Corinthians 13:4) NASB” username=”inspireafire”]

I hope you find these verses helpful as I have when it comes to love. Please feel free to share them.
