Upon the Tablet of our Hearts

You write Your words upon the tablet of our hearts and minds

Like footprints in the sand, You leave Your mark.

Like an artist who paints a masterpiece, Your presence leaves an indelible impression.

We will never be the same for You write upon the tablet of our hearts.

Who would have thought that simple truths from God’s palette could be brushed upon the canvas of our hearts causing a metamorphosis? As a caterpillar transitions to a monarch.

Changed by the mercy of the Lord. Transformed by the potent power of God’s living word.

This is the evidence of the new covenant. We are living epistles to be read by all men.

2 Corinthians 3:1-3 NIV

Are we beginning to commend ourselves again? Or do we need, like some people, letters of recommendation to you or from you? You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everyone. You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.

Here is the same scripture in the Message Paraphrase:

Does it sound like we’re patting ourselves on the back, insisting on our credentials, asserting our authority? Well, we’re not. Neither do we need letters of endorsement, either to you or from you. You yourselves are all the endorsement we need. Your very lives are a letter that anyone can read by just looking at you. Christ himself wrote it—not with ink, but with God’s living Spirit; not chiseled into stone, but carved into human lives—and we publish it.
