When I first saw this prompt, ‘rising from the ashes’, I thought I would go stereotypical and talk about a time when I, quite literally, rose from the ashes. But I did that last month. So let’s try a different angle…
Most everyone who writes for this incredible website is a creative spirit. I would be willing to say that most of you reading this have some sort of creative spirit. Most everyone on PLANET EARTH has a creative spirit. Some are just smaller than others.
When I was three-years-old I decided I wanted to be a doctor. It started out as an OB/GYN then moved to an E.R. doctor. After that it fluctuated from optometrist to oncologist and everything in between. I had my sights set on the medical field.
In the midst of striving for my M.D. label I was writing stories, drawing pictures, creating shows for my parents, singing at the top of my lungs, and doing anything and everything creative. I took acting classes and music lessons. I spent a majority of my time writing or reading or creating something. I played doctor, but I also played teacher, lawyer, actor, and singer.
By the time I reached college and started studying the sciences, I came to a startling realization…
I hate chemistry.
Yepp. I hated it. Everything about it. I dreaded class and homework and I never felt like I could be successful in the class. This was about the time I found the mass communication department and the college radio station. From there everything changed.
I am now a senior in college studying mass communication, operating a media business, working on my first feature film, writing novels, and living a life filled with passion and creativity.
God had my back.
And He guided me right to my purpose.
He took my hand and helped me rise from the ashes of uncertainty and put me right where I was meant to be.
What was your ‘rise from the ashes’ moment? It could be something BIG like being pulled from the claws of addiction or something smaller like changing your perspective on certain things. Let me know in the comments!
