There is a common and comical aspect regarding American beauty pageant contestants. When they are asked to explain what impact they would like to make on the world, many of the women reply, “I believe in world peace.” World peace on this globe may be a fantastical idea but what about peace within our souls?
Can we enjoy inner calm when the world has gone awry?
The World We Live In
More and more individuals suffer from anxiety. Many are fearful of the times we live in. Times that include mass shootings, an erratic economy, a volatile political scene, the erosion of the family as well as the occurrence of natural disasters. Our world is growing worse not better.
What is the answer to anxiety? How can inner peace be achieved? Some try to implement it through the use of alcohol, drugs or meditation. These means are not the answer. Instead, inner peace comes through a Person. His name is Jesus Christ, and He is called the Prince of Peace. He can enable us to have peace and joy even amidst difficult circumstances.
Perfect Love Casts Out Fear
When I was a teenager, I suffered from anxiety and depression. It wasn’t until I invited Jesus into my life that God’s love began to dispel the fears inside me. I started to experience God’s love, and it changed me forever. The scripture says, “There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear.”   1 John 4:18. God’s love really has the affect of curing our fears. When I look back at my life when I suffered from anxiety, it is a stark difference to my life now. God has shown me His steadfast love, and I truly know His peace. I am very thankful.
Many Suffer From Anxiety
If you are battling anxiety you’re not alone. 18.1% of the population or 40 million people aged 18 and over struggle with anxiety disorders.1 They also affect 31.9% of children ages 13-18.2 I would encourage you to cast your cares on the Lord because He cares for you. We battle anxiety with prayer. We offer God our burdens in exchange for His peace.
The First Step to Find Peace
The first step in finding peace and joy is to call on Jesus to save you. The Bible says that all who call upon the name of the Lord will be saved. Romans 10:13. Salvation is a gift from God, and we can never earn it. We must admit that we fall short of God’s best.
We need to acknowledge we are sinners and then receive God’s gift of eternal life. Jesus died for us on the cross for the payment of our sins, and after three days, He rose from the dead. All we have to do is to turn from our sin and receive God’s free gift of eternal life. This is the first real step to inner peace.
After accepting Jesus as Lord and Savior, it is also important that you have friends to support you. You can find friends to encourage you in a local Bible-believing church.
If the anxiety you experience is serious and doesn’t leave, you may need to couple faith in God with visiting a medical doctor. Ultimately, God loves us, and He helps us to overcome whatever our situation.
Future World Peace
There will come a day when Jesus reigns over the earth. His kingdom will be one of peace and the God-kind of love. This time will come after the return of Christ. It will not be as the beauty contestants envision. It be a result of God’s intervention not diplomacy.
Jesus is the Prince of Peace. I encourage you to find your hope in Him. Here is a prayer to accept Christ as your Savior and Lord, if you haven’t already or if you need to renew your commitment to Him. You will have a new and secure home in heaven.
Dear Father God,
I admit to you that I am a sinner. I am sorry for hurting your heart. Thank you for sending Jesus to die for me. I believe He has forgiven me. Thank you for a new relationship with You, and thank you for my home in heaven.
Here some things to do to help you in your new relationship with Jesus:
- Read the Bible Daily– it is food for the soul.
- Pray – Talk to your Heavenly Father. He is Your Friend and He will talk to you as well.
- Start attending a loving, Spirit-filled church that teaches from the Bible.
- Tell others about your newfound relationship with Jesus.

Asking for professional help for depression is often viewed as bad, but that is wrong. If you are depressed or suicidal, get help.
I suspect social media has made the depression epidemic worse, from doom scrolling to seeing the [fake] wonderful life of your friends and realizing your life is a mess. Go to a restaurant and watch how often a couple sitting across from each other pick up their phone, rather than talking face-to-face.
Steve – so true
It’s a balance of it all
And i so agree the social media scrolling is eating the young ones alive
Only the Word & Holy Spirit can get to their heart and minds in those dark places
I am in agreement. Thank you.
Yes, that is true. Thank you.
Yes, thank you for sharing that.
Tom, Thanks for being so transparent. I believe this word will bless and empower many to open the door to Jesus. He alone is the Healer, Counselor, Helper, and Lover of Our Souls. Now and always.
Yes, Jesus is the Wonderful Counselor. He is the answer!
I’m so thankful for the promise of 1 John 4:18.
Yes, this is one of my favorite scriptures.
Yes ! Thanks for the reminders.
