Position Yourself
Pirates of the Caribbean didn’t stumble upon treasure ships by accident. They understood something fundamental about wealth that we’ve largely forgotten: riches concentrate in predictable places. Successful pirates studied shipping routes, seasonal patterns, and cargo manifests. They knew that Spanish galleons laden with New World silver followed established paths at regular intervals. They understood which ports held the most valuable goods and when merchant vessels were most vulnerable.
Just as pirates positioned themselves at strategic chokepoints, we can identify where opportunities naturally concentrate and position ourselves accordingly.
In the gospels, Jesus revealed the “Provision Code”—a secret to how to find the riches that are already yours.
There is a treasure map in scripture that many never unroll. A scroll that marks the spot where buried booty hides out of sight. Not because they lack shovels and desire. But because—like the treasures many pirates buried (when they buried treasure)—lies beneath dead men’s bones.
Let’s dig deep and find the key to riches.
X Marks the Spot
Early in the gospel of Matthew, Jesus makes a statement that leaves us uncomfortable due to its clarity:
“Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33)
This is not symbolic language. It is legal language. And if anyone understood how to find and accumulate wealth, it was a reformed tax collector—someone accustomed to taking from poor and rich and keeping much for himself.
Notice what Jesus does not say. He does not say work harder, and you will become rich. He does not say, earn, save, and invest wisely, and you’ll grow rich.
He says, “Seek first the kingdom.” And if there is a kingdom to seek, there is a king to find.
That truth alone hints at what we often miss: the King of kings, the Lord of lords, arrives with his kingdom. He is in our midst. And where He is, abundance flows. When we make Jesus our primary pursuit, everything else—food, clothing, provision, security—stops being something we chase.
Instead, riches chase us.
This is not prosperity gospel preaching for a fee. It’s the good news of God. From Genesis to Revelation, God consistently presents prosperity, abundance, success, and expansion as the inheritance for those who seek to please Him. And how do we please God? By believing His words, nature, character, and His goodness.
It Takes Faith
“Without faith it is impossible to please God. Whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6)
God is not withholding provision until you prove yourself worthy. In Christ, He has already released heaven’s riches. All that the father has, He has given to Christ. And if we are in Christ, we are co-heirs with Him. What is the Father’s is ours. Not someday. Not will be. Now.
When we make entering God’s kingdom our primary pursuit, our course shifts. We sense there is more below the horizon. A port to seek. A treasure to attain. Not because you earned favor, but because the King has commanded us to pursue, take, and enjoy. In His presence, we have access to all the riches of Christ.
If God did not spare his own son to give you all that you need—and yes—desire, then our task is to dig up what’s buried in a land of promises.
Make Kingdom Work Your Work
Seeking the King is active prioritization, not passive waiting. It’s not that our King hides from us; it’s that He’s gone ahead of us to stand over the spot where our next treasure is hidden.
Many people chase wealth. Scripture reverses the order. Find the King, and wealth finds you.
But many miss the King’s location.
They’re looking for a feeling, an event, perhaps even a building. But this King lives in His Word.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (John 1:1)
Jesus didn’t just teach the Word. He IS the Word. When He walked the earth, provision followed Him. The sick were healed. The hungry were fed. Those in torment found peace. Wherever Jesus stood, the Kingdom manifested. And He says to us:
“Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33)
Not someday. Not far away. Now. Here.
Where?
In His Word. In the promise, you read and speak. In the scripture you consume and meditate on.
This is the port of provision. This is where abundance gathers. Not through effort. Not in your strategy. In His presence. And His presence is manifested through His Word.
So when facing a crisis, don’t just look outward at kingdom needs. Position yourself where the King is.
Open the Word. Read it aloud. Let these promises fill your ears:
“See if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.” (Malachi 3:10)
Give. Then give more. This is obedience. This is trust. This is leaning into the arms of Jesus and believing that He will protect you, provide for you, and prosper you.
“Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, men will pour into your lap.” (Luke 6:38)
Give and watch others come to you with favor, resources, time, assistance, and opportunities. Give and expect God to do more than you can imagine.
“God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.” (2 Corinthians 9:8)
When you consume these words, you’re not just reading about provision. You’re positioning yourself in the King’s presence. And where He is, provision flows.
Pirates understood: position determines plunder. When you align yourself with God’s Word—reading it, speaking it, meditating on it—you align with His presence. And His presence carries His provision.
Unfurl the Map and Declare Your Heading
Pirates didn’t just study maps. They set a course for bounty. They declared their destination. The helmsman would constantly call out their heading so the crew knew to watch and search the waters for land.
Scripture works the same way.
When we say, “I trust you to provide. Lord, you are my provision,” we’re not hoping for a feeling. We’re raising the canvas and setting our course toward what God has already promised.
“My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19)
This is your heading. This is your port. Provision. Riches. Speak it aloud. Alert others to your destination.
Even in storms, declare it. Even when circumstances cause others to grumble mutinous words against you, hold fast to the heading He gave you. Why? Because in obedience to His Word, we express faith that He is greater than circumstances and His course is true.
Declaring provision when you doubt is not pretending.
It is placing facts beneath truth. Facts bend to truth, but God’s truth never bends to facts. He has said:
“He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?” (Romans 8:32)
If God gave His Son, He won’t withhold anything else. That’s not wishful thinking. That’s a divine promise.
“The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.” (Zephaniah 3:17)
Your declaration—spoken aloud—charts your course. And where God’s Word leads, provision follows.
Dig Where X Marks the Spot
Pirates didn’t find treasure by accident. They dug where the map told them to dig.
You have a map. It’s called Scripture. And X marks the spot where God’s presence—and His provision—waits.
But here’s the key: The digging is the consuming.
You’re not digging in physical dirt. You’re digging into the living Word. And as you dig—read it, speak it, meditate on it—the treasure surfaces.
God’s Word is not information. It’s activation. It’s actively listening to Jesus’ Holy Spirit whispering to you, “Right there. That word, that phrase. Dig there. Don’t rush past. Back up and go deeper. There’s a treasure here I want you to see.”
“The word of God is alive and active.” (Hebrews 4:12)
Alive. Active. Working.
That is Jesus in His word. That is Jesus through His Spirit teaching us all things.
That means when you read Philippians 4:19, you’re not simply learning a truth. You’re activating the Provider’s presence. When you speak Malachi 3:10 aloud, you’re not only rehearsing a promise. You’re positioning yourself where heaven’s floodgates open.
Where the Word is, God is. Where God is, the Kingdom is. Where the Kingdom is, provision flows.
This is the mechanism many miss. They pray for provision but never position themselves in the Word. They ask God to move but never settle in the place where He’s already working.
So dig daily.
Not randomly. Not occasionally. Daily.
When you arise each morning, ask His Holy Spirit to lead you to the treasure. Start in scripture. Even if you’re on the wrong part of the island, He’ll guide you to the spot on that map where a large X—two crossbones, two beams on which our Savior died—marks a treasure.
Return to these verses often:
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.” (Psalm 23:1)
“Those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.” (Psalm 34:10)
“The Lord will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands.” (Deuteronomy 28:12)
Your ears are closest to the speaker of God’s Word. Let your own voice declare His Word over you.
Let His promises become the voice you hear throughout your day.
Because here’s what happens:
As you consume the Word, peace replaces anxiety. As you speak His promises, opportunities appear. As you meditate on His faithfulness, needs are met.
Not because you worked harder. But because you positioned yourself where the King already stands.
The treasure isn’t at the end of obedience. The treasure is IN the Word you obey.
Pirates dug in physical sand. We dig in the living Word. And the deeper you dig, the richer the haul.
