God’s Family — Are You A Member?

I was born into the family of a King—Leland and Mary King. I am a King’s kid, Beth King Fortune. I have 2 younger brothers, John and Bob and they are King kids.

Being born into the King family gave us certain rights and privileges. One of them was we could go to our dad for anything.  We could go into his office when he was at work, we could invade his space at home, and we could crawl up in his lap. We could go to him when we needed advice or direction. The reason we could do all of this was that we were in his family and had a relationship with him.

It’s the same way with my Heavenly Father. Before I can enjoy certain rights and privileges and be His kid, I have to be in His family. And how do I get in His family? I have to be born into it.

“Born Again.” It’s one of those Christian phrases we hear but what does it mean?

Jesus used these words with Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews, when He said, “Unless one is born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God.” (John 3:3).

And why do we need to be born again?

When Adam and Eve were created, they were created body, soul, and spirit. When they sinned they died spiritually and because of this they could no longer have fellowship or be in a relationship with God. Why? Because God is a Holy God and He can’t be in the presence of sin. So when Adam and Eve sinned, fellowship was broken and they could no longer be in the presence of their creator, their heavenly Father. They were no longer, BODY – SOUL – SPIRIT. They were only BODY – SOUL. Again, their spirit died.

From Adam and Eve on, every child has been, and will continue to be, born into sin and are body and soul only.

But God had a plan. His plan was Jesus.

For thousands of years, all through the Old Testament in the Bible we read of how God worked through people like Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob . . . He called out a man, Abraham, who He would bless with many descendants to form a nation . . . and out of that nation He would bless the world. For out of the Jewish nation Jesus came.

Why did Jesus come?

Jesus came . . . to bridge the gap between sinful man and a Holy God. The wages of sin is death and Jesus came to pay the sin debt for all of us.

John 3:16,  “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”

As soon as a we accept that Jesus went to the cross, shed His blood and died for our sins, that He rose from the dead to forever defeat death, the Bible says that we are born again. Born again—born into the family. As soon as we accept what Jesus did for us, the Bible also says that we immediately receive the Holy Spirit. God’s Spirit. We are born again. We are once again BODY – SOUL – SPIRIT. We are in the family, a child of God. A King’s kid.

And not only are we in God’s family, but we can now be in fellowship with a Holy God. He does not see our sin, but He sees us through the blood of Jesus that He shed on the cross.

Whosoever—anyone—who believes in Jesus Christ,
will be saved.

Have you accepted what Jesus did on the cross? Then you are born again and are in the family of God.

And  . . . what an awesome Daddy we have!!!
