Does Your Heart Ache for Peace?

by Nan Jones

does your heart ache for peace?

My heart ached for peace. The days had been long. The nights longer still. Deep in my spirit, I heard the Lord’s delicate whisper calling me to come, be still, and remember that He is God.

My spirit, weak with battle fatigue, struggled to remember that He is God.

David’s Faith Was Wrought with Fiery Trials, Too

I sat beneath the soft lamplight in the stillness of morning, my Bible in hand.  Flipping through its worn pages I found myself drawn to the Psalms. Oh, my goodness! What comfort we find in these words of David — his authentic faith wrought with fiery trials yet proclaiming the faithful promises of God.

The Lord quickened to me a simple song from years earlier: Psalm 32:7.

does your heart ache for peace?“You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me from trouble; You shall surround me with songs of deliverance. In times I am afraid, I will trust in You.”

Over and over again I sang these simple, yet powerful words, soaking in their truth.

He IS my hiding place.

He WILL preserve me from trouble.

He WILL surround me with songs of deliverance when my heart aches for peace.

Surround me …

“For You, O Lord, will bless the righteous; With favor You will surround him as with a shield.” ~ Psalm 5:12

“But You, O Lord, are a shield for me, my glory and the One who lifts my head. I cried to the Lord with my voice, and He heard me from His holy hill.” ~ Psalm 3:3-4

“The Lord is my strength and my shield; My heart trusted in Him, and I am helped.” ~ Psalm 28:7

Have you had several long days and even longer nights filled with worry, anxiety, or restlessness? Does your heart ache for peace? Be encouraged. What the Lord has spoken, He will do. Ask Him to awaken your heart to sense His Presence.

When Your Heart Aches for Peace, Remember God Will Never Let Us Go

Whatever trouble we’re facing, He is there. He surrounds us as a shield. He makes the crooked places straight, the desert places lush with new life. Our tears are precious to Him.

What He has begun — what He has purposed — He will complete. His Word is settled in heaven.

When your heart aches for peace remember this: God’s love won’t let us go … especially on the long days and nights when we need Him most of all.
