Killed upon a crimson cross
Agony on display
A Lamb offered up His body
The Life, the Truth the Way
He who knew no sin became sin for us
He took upon Himself the suffering we deserved
And offered us His glory and righteousness before God
The physical pain was only a portion of what He endured
It stung more than emotional torment
His Father turned His head away, while Jesus hung in darkness
He knew sweet fellowship with the Father from eternity past
He felt the anguish of separation from God
So we could be forgiven – a forgiveness that will last
He was fully God and fully man who took upon Himself the sin of all mankind
On a dark Friday, He cried out “It is finished!” His heart stopped beating, His breathing ceased.
His lifeless body lay drenched in scarlet
To set multitudes of captives free

When Sunday came, a power far surpassing all we know released
God the Father rose Jesus from the dead
Now our sins can find forgiveness and all condemnation leaves
Healing flows from the One who suffered
We can find eternal salvation. Our bodies receive full restoration.
Now we can come boldly to the throne of grace because the temple veil was torn in half
Most importantly, Jesus bought for us an eternal relationship with Him
And we can reach out to those around us proclaiming the cross and the risen Lamb
Given to us for freedom deep in our hearts
Jesus endured separation from God so we could know the Father
Deep in our hearts
Beautiful, Tom! Oh, what a savior!
Thank you. Amen!
