Beside Still Waters

Lead us Lord, to Your mountain, into the deep woods where shallow pools beckon us to kneel beside still waters. This place formed by grace. Where You take us away from fear that comes in tumultuous waves and bring us to abundance and gratitude for today. –Me

Send out your light and truth; let them lead me; let them bring me to your holy hill and to your dwelling. ~ Psalm 43:3 ESV

The broken road

Maybe you, as I, have occasionally walked beside still waters. We’ve prayed to an unseen God who we believe will help us overcome. To be all He called us to be or to give us or a loved one more time to live.

A silent prayer. A sincere petition. At times, words spilling from an empty well. Breathless begging into the vapors.

“Help us, Lord, to overcome yesterday’s disappointments and not dwell in miry clay.

Help us overcome death’s sting—or words spoken.

Memories or phrases, now living in a void we’ve allowed to silence gifts given by You.

Help those who forsake us overcome such swift currents that pull them. And more important Lord, as You lead us, help us forgive and move on.

Help us become better in every expressed moment—and remind us, God; The broken road we hiked led us to You.

Walk with us in the quiet. Beside still waters. And give us more grace and love for the journey.”

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want . . . ~ Psalm 23 ESV

Grace for the journey

It is unearned love—the love that goes before, that greets us on the way. It’s the help you receive when you have no bright ideas left, when you are empty and desperate and have discovered that your best thinking and charming charm have failed you. Grace is the light or electricity or juice or breeze that takes you from that isolated place and puts you with others who are as startled and embarrassed and eventually grateful as you are to be there. –Traveling Mercies: Some Thoughts on Faith by Anne Lamott, 1999

To those who have obtained faith of equal standing with ours by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ: May grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. ~ 2 Peter 1:1-2 ESV

Lead the way, Lord

Dear friends,

Have you ever wondered if it were possible to have a heart like Jesus’s mother Mary? With an innocent willingness she followed and believed her heavenly Father. Then He led her to not only see the impossible—but to become it as well. All because she followed.

Can you imagine having faith like that? I’d love to hear your thoughts here in the IAF comment section.

Wishing you joy for your journey… in Jesus’ Love,

Joann

  1. I read a book many years ago called “And God Called a Girl.” It was such a beautiful depiction of the submissive, obedient nature of Jesus‘s mother. I pray to learn from her all the days of my life—not in idolatrous worship, but, rather, in humility and admiration. Because, after all, God DID call her. He chose her. And there is much to learn of her character.
