Autumn’s Harvest and The Giver of all Seasons

Rustle, rustle, autumn’s here. So, wander in the magic, and keep hope near.

Angie Weiland-Crosby

Remembering the seasons, and letting go

I’ve noticed, with each passing year, the seasons slip away like youth, my figure, and yes, even sand in an hourglass. How many more cycles will I see before I’m called away to my forever home?

Whether flesh and blood or material, good-byes aren’t always easy. Every brisk October morning brings bits of wisdom I hope to ponder. Wind-blown, red or golden leaves carry memories of seasons past with them, but first, they had to let go.

Some are tossed into a crackling campfire. Others become winter havens for hopeful creatures. However different, all hold colorful blessings from autumn’s harvest and The Giver of all seasons.

Eccelesiastes 3

A time for everything

…For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven:

a time to be born, and a time to die;

a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted;

a time to kill, and a time to heal;

a time to break down, and a time to build up;

a time to weep, and a time to laugh;

a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together;

a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;

a time to seek, and a time to lose;

a time to keep, and a time to cast away;

a time to tear, and a time to sew;

a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;

a time to love, and a time to hate;

a time for war, and a time for peace.

Another God-given task?

Again, I hear God’s whisper on this brisk October wind. His voice coaxing colorful leaves, along with us, first to turn—and then, let go.

Another season gone, but Autumn’s harvest and The Giver of all seasons is on the way. In all, be joyful and love one another while we wait for heaven.

Ecclesiastes 3:9-14

All in God’s appointed time . . .Psalm 104:19

More sowing and reaping

Autumn is my favorite season. I can hardly wait until the thermometer drops below fifty degrees. That’s the magical temperature which signals it’s time to gather a bundle of wood and light a fire in our fireplace or outdoor firepit. And yes, I’ll bake pumpkin pies, cook pots of chili, stews, and delicious soups too.

I love how the golden mountain trails beckon us to take hikes with our grandsons—without the worry of summer’s scorching sunburns, ticks, snakes, or other creepy crawlies.

How the crunching sounds of our boots scrunching piles of dried leaves beneath our feet mingle with chirpy bird calls or barking dogs. Altogether resounding, as only a woodland symphony should.

Finally, it’s time to celebrate thankfulness and gather or share our garden’s harvest with friends and family. However, it may also be a time when we must let go or endure change in life’s seasons.

God’s unimaginable promise…

1 Corinthians 2:9

Dear friends,

Although Autumn may seem fleeting, we can reap much in seeking understanding. In Corinthians 2:9, Paul describes God’s goodness and abundant blessings as treasures we must sow before we can reap.

I’m thankful, in all seasons, for the way God offers us new life. He’s the Giver who sows in us seeds of faith. And like Autumn, He says, “I’ll be back again someday.” My harvest will come in due time.

So, for today, let’s enjoy the beauty of every smile, hug, or act of kindness, and liken them to the gifts of the most vivid reds, golds, or ambers from The One and Only.

 Until my last breath, I’ll lean on that hope—and the Giver of all seasons, promises. Wishing you joy and blessings in this most colorful time of the year,

  1. Funny how I love summer the best of all, given the wealth of “sunburns, ticks, snakes, or other creepy crawlies.” Especially the snakes. No thank you!

    Autumn brings so many promises too

  2. I love this so much.
    Like you, Autumn is my very favorite. It’s such a treat to each of our senses, right down to the yummy things we eat and drink!
    I’m so thankful God created us to experience life in such fulfilling ways… each with their season!
