I closed my eyes against the forceful fears of the Coronavirus, the racial unrest, and the threat of America becoming a nation I don’t recognize. Quietly I spoke, “Jesus … Jesus … ”
There really is something about that Name.
His Name ushers in peace — calm in the midst of the storm.
His Name activates faith within me — rising up and out, quenching the flames of the fiery trial.
Speaking that Name lifts high His shield all about me — all about you — for such a time as this.

The days are frightening, aren’t they? So many unknowns. So many dangers. The Coronavirus is changing life in America as we have known it, and dismantling all the familiar places we find security. Our black brothers and sisters are hurting, and we are grasping, searching for understanding to help heal their wounds.
America is Under Siege. What Can We Do For Her?
America is under siege.
The threat is real.
But as a Jesus follower, we are instructed to not be afraid. “Fear not, for I am with you,” says the Lord of lords, and the King of kings, the Almighty God, Maker of heaven and earth.
And when He speaks, I do my best to listen.

Oh, sweet friend! Close your eyes and imagine the Lord God responding to Your cries of fear or despair. In His response He gathers you, surrounding you with Himself, becoming your shield.
Powerful!
Comforting.
Nothing can come to us without His knowledge, without His watch-care. He sees us and knows all about it. He is for us, not against us.
He is Jehovah-rapha, our Healer. Jehovah-jireh, our Provider.
And He is good.
Always.
Our God changes not. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
Our God is a Shield About Us
Although we live in a fallen world where it seems everything is beginning to crumble, our God is still on the throne of authority, and our God is still a shield about His children. And America is still one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
Only God can change the hearts of the people.
Only He can heal our land.
We must open eyes that we might see and recognize His abiding Presence, allowing Him to work through us, His Church.
