A World of Disguise

I love spring. With it we uncover all the things we’ve had to blanket for the winter. It makes us want to put on our best and step out in the fresh air. Warmer weather brings sunshine and inspiration, and the best place to find inspiration these days? Pinterest? Maybe. Instagram? Absolutely.

But don’t be fooled by all the pretty pictures. Not everything, even in a season of unveiling, is what it seems. Thanks to social media and apps we now put filters on our lives. We show only what we want others to see. We paint the perfect pictures, have the best of everything, and create a world of disguise for all to see.

But like the thawing of winter, what happens when we reveal what has been kept covered. #nofilters. Showing things as they are.  It makes us vulnerable to the world. So instead we put on a mask to hide what is inside, we filter the parts of us others might not find as attractive or appealing because we want our world to appear like those pretty pictures.
