Jesus is Our Hope in the Dark

Have you ever found yourself in the dark without electricity?

If you live in areas where storms can knock out your power in an instant, perhaps your answer is yes. Seems everywhere I’ve lived, with the probable exception of Africa, there were storms of one kind or the other which threatened the reliability of the flow of electric power into my house.

When we moved to east Texas from central Florida, one of the first things I did was place candles and matches easily accessible in every room. I put flashlights next to each bed because that’s what I needed to do in Florida. Even though we have hurricanes here in my part of Texas just like we had in Florida, it seems we don’t have the summer storms that knocked out our power as frequently.

Nevertheless, I wanted the security of a light within easy reach for those inevitable times of darkness.

I don’t thoroughly understand how electricity makes its way to my home. But I do know when I flip on the light switch, the bulb (usually) turns on.

Even though I do not physically see all the wires and turbines which make it work, I don’t just hope the light will turn on, I expect it to go on.

When life is difficult, it might help us to think about electricity. Crazy, huh? Let me explain.

Just as we put our hope and trust in the electrical current which runs from point A to point B when we can’t see it, we must put our hope and trust in Jesus. He is the one who remains with us, providing power to get through the dark times of life. Even though we can’t physically see him.

When troubling situations surround us, the power in our life dims, and hope fades, isn’t it comforting to have the security of the Light within easy reach for those inevitable times of darkness?

Our hope in the dark rests in Jesus. He is the one who gives us peace, light, and hope for our future.

The worst storms cannot blow out that power source.

The Solid Rock by Edward Mote

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.

On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.

When darkness veils His lovely face,
I rest on His unchanging grace;
In every high and stormy gale,
My anchor holds within the veil.

His oath, His covenant, His blood
Support me in the whelming flood;
When all around my soul gives way,
He then is all my hope an
d stay.

When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh, may I then in Him be found;
Dressed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne.

I wish you well.
