Happily Married for 65 Years

65 years

This week, my sweet aunt and uncle celebrated 65 years of marriage. They were interviewed by a local TV station. The link to the interview is here. Besides their obvious joy, anyone watching or listening had three takeaways: focus, commitment, and passion. I couldn’t help but think how that applies to every worthwhile endeavor in life, whether it is marriage, raising children, or writing a book.

Focus – My uncle commented that he worked to provide for his family as my aunt cared for their three children. They each had a focus, a particular responsibility that resulted in a long marriage with three children who are now married with their own families.

Commitment – Sixty-five years is a long time for a marriage in today’s society. The couple did give up and walk away.

Passion – Obviously, they share a passion for each other. My uncle encouraged anyone listening to keep telling his or her spouse that they love them. I personally know that they also share a passion for God and living according to His Word.

In this month of Valentine’s Day celebration, this couple provides an example to others on how to succeed at things that are truly important.

How about you? What worthwhile thing is God calling you to do with your life?
